PLANNED PetHood: Our County-Wide Spay/Neuter Program

We are partnering with Animal Balance to hold two large-scale spay/neuter clinics in 2024: August 16, 17, and 18 and November 15, 16 and 17!

Each day of each 3-day event, the experienced, fully-licensed Veterinary teams from Animal Balance will spay and neuter 33 cats and 34 dogs in the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter’s “Annex” or “Education Center” building at 2260 7th Ave (just around the corner from our main shelter), for a total of 200 animals over 3 days!

  • Core vaccinations and a microchip will also be provided, at our affordable Planned Pethood rates: $300 for dogs; $150 for cats
  • Those on public assistance (Medi-Cal, CalFresh, SSDI, etc) can show proof of that assistance and pay reduced fees: $150 for dogs; $75 for cats
  • Pets must be healthy, between 2 months and 8 years of age, and between 2 lbs and 80 lbs.
  • Pets with very short noses (pugs, French bulldogs, Persian cats, etc) and those with medical issues need to be spayed/neutered at a full-service clinic.
  • Dogs will need to be dropped off, wearing a secure collar and leash, at 8:00am the day of your appointment, and picked up late the same afternoon.
  • Cats will need to be dropped off, in a secure carrier, at 8:30am the day of your appointment, and picked up late the same afternoon.
